Social pedagogy

Supporting children and young people day to day – playing, building and talking with them. That's the field I'm training in right now.

The training

I'm in the first year of training as a social pedagogical assistant at the Berufliche Schule für Sozialwesen Pankow. So I'm at the beginning: I'm not yet a qualified pedagogical professional – I'm learning the foundations for becoming one.

During my training I want to understand what I've experienced in practice on a professional level and expand my knowledge step by step.

My first insights

I got to know everyday open youth work at Landhaus Rosenthal, where I did my internship and my Federal Volunteer Service. There I played with children, supported them in everyday situations and joined in practical, creative and craft activities.

Much of my contact came through the centre's café, which I looked after on my own once I'd settled in. Children, young people and families drop by – you learn to deal with very different people in a friendly and clear way.

I especially enjoyed showing new interns the ropes and passing on what I knew.

How I work with people

With children I'm patient, helpful and open. Treating people respectfully and fairly matters to me, and I like working in a team. I'm happiest contributing to creative, practical and active activities.

What drives me

I'm particularly interested in educational work with children. I want to bring in my experience from craft work, the kitchen and events – because building, preparing or trying something out together is often a good way to connect.

My project Prüfstand also revolves around topics that matter to young people, such as youth protection, road traffic and data protection.
